The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO)

FAO is specialized agency of the United Nations that leads international efforts to defeat hunger. Our goal is to achieve food security for all and make sure that people have regular access to enough high-quality food to lead active, healthy lives. With over 194 member states, FAO works in over 130 countries worldwide.

National Forestry and Grassland Administration

The National Forestry and Grassland Administration (formerly the State Forestry Administration) of the People's Republic of China is subordinated to the Ministry of Natural Resources. Its main responsibilities include supervising and administrating the development, utilization and protection of forests, grasslands, wetlands, deserts and terrestrial wildlife resources, initiating and organizing restoration, rehabilitation and protection actions of ecological environment, implementing re/afforestation programs, managing national parks and various types of nature reserves, etc. The aims are to strengthen the protection of eco-system, to coordinate the supervision and management of forests, grasslands, wetlands and deserts, to accelerate the establishment of natural reserve system with national parks as the main body and to secure national ecological safety.

The International Union Of Forest Research Organizations(IUFRO)

IUFRO is a non-profit, non-governmental international network of forest scientists, which promotes global cooperation in forest-related research and enhances the understanding of the ecological, economic and social aspects of forests and trees. IUFRO is "the" global network for forest science cooperation. It unites more than 15,000 scientists in almost 700 Member Organizations in over 110 countries, and is a member of ICSU. Scientists cooperate in IUFRO on a voluntary basis.

The Chinese Academy of Forestry (CAF)

CAF is a comprehensive, multi-discipline and public research institution that is directly subordinate to the National Forestry and Grassland Administration. CAF is principally engaged in forest research of applied/basic sciences and strategic high technology researches, developmental research and soft science studies; and tackles the scientific and technological issues that bear overall, comprehensive, crucial and fundamental magnitude. CAF consists of 19 research institutes and centres, and 10 branch academies, which are distributed in 18 provinces, regions and municipality in the country. In over 50 years, under the correct leadership of the national forestry administrative department, CAF has provided the national forestry strategic development and national major forestry programs with vigorous scientific and technological support, making great contributions to the acceleration of forestry development, improvement of ecological environment, safeguard of ecological security and the building of ecological cilvilization.

The State Key Laboratory of Tree Genetics and Breeding (SKLTGB)

SKLTGB, co-constructed by Chinese Academy of Forestry (Beijing) and Northeast Forestry University (Harbin), and approved by Ministry of Science and Technology of the People's Republic of China in 2011, is the one and only State Key Laboratory of Chinese Forestry. Based on advanced instrument platforms widely involved bioinformatics, micro-imaging, proteomics, and metabonomics, SKLTGB is primarily concerned with basic/applied basic sciences in tree genetics and breeding, systematically studying functional genomics of trees, deeply revealing molecular mechanisms of important traits such as wood formation and stress response, and ultimately creating innovative germplasm by the combining means of biotechnical methods such as genomic selection breeding ,and traditional breeding techniques like hybridization. The overall goal of SKLTGB is to develop a modern, internationalized and excellent platform for worldwide tree breeders.
